Burdie ,

No bolt holes. Just four "bumps."

This is its sister brick, also found today:
Also has the four "bumps", different shape.

Think they are paving bricks; have not been
able to locate much information. Still looking.

BDoo,

thanks for the info.

Nana,
not really out hunting. Group of folks, and I,
ended up in a very old industrial area. As we
were moving around I noticed one area that
seemed interesting. Took home the two bricks.
May go back some day and detect.

Other folks thought it strange that I took home
two bricks--------------some folks just don't appreciate
small treasures. ;D

Think that DiggerBug would understand. ;) ;D

have a good un................

I have found four unique street bricks in my town. The reason bricks were so different was because there were usually multiple brick companies in that town. If you would like to browse all the different varieties produced in Kansas you can check out this link...some of them are really funny. I have the "Don't Spit on the Sidewalk" one..

I saw a Modern Marvels episode on bricks. They had a guy who collected them. He had a few thousand different kinds. They all had stamps and maker marks. Those are in great shape!

Nice find!

Interesting brick Sherm. Can't say you are one brick shy of a load, LOL, just kidding! Would be interesting to know where it came from, maybe a brickyard that died out years ago. HH, Mike

Neat brick Sherm! I've never found one that has the little bumps on it. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for one.

Most of the bricks we collect are from local brick yards. The name impressed in the brick usually signified the brick company. Locally I know of 3 brick yards that were within 10 miles of each other. Two of them only about a mile apart.

Local bricks:

Nana and I were given permission to hunt a small portion of a brick yard that closed in the 20's and had 350 people living on the property when it closed. There was a commissary, pool, etc. We didn't find any old coins or tokens but did find alot of broken bricks.

Sorry for the long reply, but like Nana said...I love old bricks!
