UPDATE

Sorry to revive this thread but I think it may be a celtic POTIN type coin after all.. looks just like the ones in this link on ma shops.

Not sure, tho...

Original post:

Today Westfront was so kind as to show me a field with potential for roman finds.

We worked the area which showed evidence of roman settlement for about 4 hours.

The field felt like maybe someone had detected in the past since there were not that many finds but still we found some interesting artifacts.

2 "vulva" metal fittings
1 Roman coin (Westfront might upload a pic)
1 possibly celtic coin

The unidentified coin seems to have a running man with shield and sword on one side and a horse with 2 circles on the other. The design looks like it might be of celtic origin.
I tried to take pictures in a way that the shadows make the design easily visible.
The edge looks sharp which made me think of a possible immitation or fabrication error but it could also be due to a cast or copper core?
Looks like bronze to me but I might be wrong. I Have not cleaned it, only washed with water.
Any ideas on how to clean without damaging?
Thanks for looking, ID appreciated

There's got to be bullets and shrapnel almost everywhere over there especially near population centers and along lines of advance and retreat. At least you can be rewarded with ancient finds

Cool, always like being proved wrong.(The large rim throw me off) I have very little experience in these, only had a couple.

They are a very rare find, but have very little commercial value. (Not that it matters to me)

Thanks Cru for confirming, I always value your expert opinion, I actually had my serious doubts if it was anything at all until I stumbled upon the image of those coins online.
Westfront and I thought it might be some kind of same-age counterfeit last year.
I never sell my finds and dont intend to so for me the commercial value is not important, just happy to have found something interesting :D

I've lost count of how many times that I've stumbled on an ID for an old What Is It, whilst surfing the net for other research reasons.

Very nice find Benjamin! Great research finding that obscure and rare coin. You had a hunch and went with it. Congrats
