Found a "U.S" Embossed Pocket Knife Today. Military Issue? WWII? WWI? Any Ideas?

Found a crusty pocket knife in the woods today. It's 3" long and only 1/4" thick. Looked like the outer wooden handles were rotted off, so I just stuffed it my pocket and didn't really check it out. But when I got home and cleaned it up, I realized it was a very thin knife with "U.S." embossed on the sides. It also has stars going around the outer edges of the sides. Is this some sort of military issue knife? Could be a cool find or maybe it's just junk. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks guys! I did a Google image search, but found squat. I also checked eBay, but came up empty.

This spot has stuff from the late 1700's up to around the early 1900's. I've found a few 1700's flat buttons there, an 1803 LC and part of a powder flask from the 1800's in this area. So it could be old, but you never know.

I am gonna just stick my neck out...
And at the risk of my "opinion" on things posted being tarnished... or more tarnished than it already may be :P

I think this is EARLY American military... no later than civil war.
Just a mere guess by the look and of course,,, that friggin simple star... that is what tosses it into the coolness tank... that single star with that FONT.

Michigan? That means it could be a Civil War era knife. That would be pretty cool!

I found a WW2 hat pin once in the woods where it had no business being I think a kid took it from his grandpa or something. I remember the stars around it but not the US I would have looked closer at it Ill look for it when I get home!!!

Nice find FTB! I am not sure that it is that old, but will await a positive ID.

I certainly do hope that you have found what AARC, thinks that you have found.

Well done sir!

Standard US Army issued pocket knife. Got mine issued to me back in the 80's, then Camilus came out with the two bladed version, then the single blade with a can opener, then another.

Last I have seen one with Stars was issued out back in 1998.

I always kept all my issued knives and never used them, always figured one day they would be worth something. Some are, seen a few list at around 1800 bucks.

I find it very hard to believe that this knife is from the 80's...

In fact I find it very hard to believe that this knife is from THIS century...
Let alone the last 50 years.

Very hard... sorry. heh
