Hi everyone, I have a bunch of photos to post. I had to apply a bit of oil on some of the coins in order to see and photograph the silhouettes. I'm curious whether coins in this poor of condition are worth bothering with? I mean, we won't throw them away, but I guess there's no making them any better. As you can guess--we're having great difficulty identifying them, so if anyone recognizes anything, please let us know. Our coolest find today was a Real. It looks to be 1774? I can't quite find a match because the IND(?) letters are on the opposite side of the photos online. Nice condition, but since we haven't tried to clean it, it's somewhat difficult to make out. We found several buttons today, and the one with the huge looped shank has writing on the front of it, but we are afraid to clean it because it's pewter. Anyway, here are a bunch of photos. If I'm posting too much at one time, please let me know! Thanks, all. ~Lisa & John

Iron, you rock! Thanks! We are ordering a book on Spanish, Itish, UK coins to help us out. -L & D

I'd look at Krause World coins 1601-1700 & 1701-1800.

Not much you can do to improve toasted coppers. Most coppers found in New England will be toasted, especially if you find them on old farm land. They used lots of fertilizer on the crops, so that trashes the coins.

Even in the woods, most of my coppers are toasted. Unfortunately, acidic soil is the norm around here...

Shoot, Iron, I should have checked with you guys before ordering a world coin book. I told John about one yesterday, and I think he already ordered it. I'll have to check. It is Coin Yearbook 2016 by John Mussell. Thanks for your book recommendation. L&J

Tim, yes, it's a shame! Can't do much more than I've already done with these ones as far as visibility goes. Thanks for your reply. L&J

Well done again sir. That Spanish silver is worn, but beautiful.

That is quite a site. Best of luck to you both!

Great finds. I recognized one of them as a KG and another as a reale. That is the extent of my help. Thank goodness we have folks on TNet that can go deeper than that. Congrats!

Great job guys. I would give that real a quick lemon juice bath with a soft toothbrush and see what details emerge. Just go easy so it doesn't get turned into an ugly shiny looking modern coin....one of my least favorite things 8-)
