image.jpeg Finally got some clear weather. Slung the magnet for a couple of hours down the bayou by a long forgotten sawmill. Here are some of the more interesting things including a complete "log dog" with chain, a log dog axe , handmade bolts , a few individual log dogs and most interesting a very large wood chisel stamped " mottram". Why would such a large wood image.jpeg chisel be found in e bayou next to a sawmill?

Nice recoveries. Maybe the wood chisel was used to strip bark off a log before attaching a chain? The chain would get a better bite into a log without bark.
You can strip bark with an axe but it also damages the wood.

The chisel would have been used to peel bark and shoe the log it would have had a wooden handle and been very sharp
