Hi gang, John detected for a few minutes today and found this gorgeous button that appears to be bronze. I think it's a button, although I haven't seen many that are hollowed out on the back like that. Just sharing a pretty little find. Happy digging. -Lisa & John

Lol! It sure is a beauty, isnt it, Port? A big one, too. Do you think it's indeed a button? -L&J

I know less than zero about colonial buttons....but are you sure that's what it is?
I don't really know for sure, but at first blush, it looks to me like an escutcheon of some sort... A pull from a piece of furniture maybe.....dunno....
Good looking piece, a keeper for sure.

Dave, nope--I just guessed that it's a button! But I like your guess even better! Thanks for your input. -L&J

Its a 2 piece Civilian pressed copper or brass fronted button with a missing steel back, probably late 19th C (no earlier).
Looks very nice.

Just leave it to Cru, and he'll figure it out! Makes sense to me. Thanks so much. Now, if you could only figure out what our script to see button is…hehehe. -L&J
