Went out with a new friend today for about 2.5 hours. He agreed to let me and a guy that's from the local historical society tag along to a property that dates back to the 1700s. It was supposed to be a one time permission but as it turns out I actually know the land owner! He works in the same building as me, so hopefully I'll work it out so I can go back there.

I took the ACE 400 out in the field and hit some large iron, square nails, and about 4 modern rifle casings. But then I hit a rare, 1780s Vermont Copper! The kind with the crowned bust on the front and the draped seated bust on the back. Unfortunately it's too toasted to see the date anymore. But I'll take it!

Congrats! The Vermont coppers don't seem to come up nearly as much as the Connecticut ones. That's a great find.

Nice find :icon_thumright:. Please don't forget to take your new friend, with you, if you do get back on.

Thanks everyone! It made my day--heck, my whole MDing career so far! I worked it out with the land owner to get to keep going back. And I'll be sure to go when my new friend goes. I'm so excited!!! He has acres upon acres and the main town road passed right through his property in the early 1700s. I'll make a new thread to showcase the finds from the property as we go along.

I would take a find like that anytime. Do you like using the Ace 400?

@ShovelinDave Yes I do. The iron audio feature works great and I'm able to accurately pinpoint about 98.5% of all my targets. It's a big step up from the Fischer F2 that I started with.

Went back to the field again yesterday for about 2.5 hours. Didn't find anything interesting but I cleaned out a lot of junk targets. I kept saying "You gotta dig the trash to dig the treasure" as I went. Since the field is so huge I've decided to grid it out and search each grid back and forth and then diagonally. Hopefully this will make the daunting size of the field more manageable when I go out next time.
