Got out for a second hunt on a new permission. First find of the day was the dropped 3 ringer, a first for me (what is this doing in Indiana?). Shortly after, the deus sniffs out an 1865 IH. About an hour goes by and I get a faint mid to high tone signal and dig up the gold gilted ornamental piece. No idea what it is, but beats digging pull tabs.... About 10 feet away I finally recover my first (1910) V nickel! Was wondering how much longer it would take to get my coil over one.
Last noteworthy target is an 1888 democratic candidate token. Not much of a token collector, but it does have a year on it and is pretty cool considering 1888 election results.

Thanks for looking and HH!

Very cool finds! :occasion14: 58-caliber muzzle loading rifles were popular all over the country, even Indiana. :laughing7:

I guess this shows my ignorance of firearms and munitions of 1800s. Somehow I just assumed that a 3 ringer from the civil war era was pretty much exclusively military use. Guess it isn't such a significant find after all.
