I found this while I was walking along the water at the seaside ca beach I could not believe it. I don't know much about it yet and it does a a message in it....maybe someone might know what I should do with it. I would love to see what the message says. A little bit of water has gotten inside. There is a number 2 on the bottom of the bottle. Does anyone know what that means. image.jpeg

The wear on the bottle is correct. Best guess is early 1900's. But that doesn't mean anything. The cork condition is pretty good, but there is a slight chance that it weathered that well after a hundred years. If your intent is to make money then selling it via auction is the best bet, unless there is a remote chance that it is a treasure map or verified that it is of great historical importance. If not, open it in a dry area. I wouldn't use a hair dryer on it, and record the whole thing on video from start to finish with at least one or two eye witnesses. Also take plenty of photos ASAP as it may fade due to the ink hitting the air. Lastly, post it all over. Document document document!!!

Personally, I'd use a Knife or Flat head Screwdriver & Dig the Cork out in pieces

I have three more thoughts on this.

1. How did the OP find T-Net? Lets face it everyone. You are not a member of any metal detecting website and you find something like this and before opening, you find T-Net online and post your find to ask if it is OK to open? Seems very far fetched.

2. Why would the OP NOT think it would be OK to open?

3. Is he ever going to come back and share what he found?

I have no relationship to the OP, however the OP sent me a private message revealing the secret contents of the bottle. It was this picture with text:

There's a long-running frustration on Reddit of people that find old hidden safes in homes, post pictures of them pre-opened asking for advice, tips, etc., then we never hear from them again and everyone loses their minds. I hope the OP isn't one of those cases.

Who remembers Geraldo opening Al Capone's vault? The discovery. The buildup. The anticipation. Then...

You may have something there scuba,if op was looking for responses knows everyone is itching to find out what the contents are and should have responded in some manner.

Curiosity is human nature and if I would have found it I'd have opened on the spot, than if it was something super cool I "might have"blabbed it on the internet, not vise versa.

Something seems fishy here, maybe pun intended.
