UPDATE--WOW!! BUCKLE BEAUTY...1683 Mass Property

Hi gang,

We found our most complete and pretty buckle yet. It cleaned up nicely! I'm having some difficulty dating it. I have attached a bunch of photos. Also found this cool little thimble. We're off to check out your "today's finds." Thanks for looking. -Lisa & John

UPDATE--Guys, John pulled out that huge shoe buckle frame he found a few weeks back, and would you believe that the shoe buckle innards fit exactly into it?! Check out the new photos. Even the brass looks and feels the same. Coincidence? Found them about 100 feet apart. Hey, even if it is a coincidence, it's so cool. Thanks for looking. -L&J

Its only the guts of an 18th C shoe buckle, the main frame is missing.

Neat find on the shoe buckle...maybe you can locate the outer frame if you remember the general area you found it.

Cru, Flat, and Bill--really?? That entire apparatus belongs inside something? I had no idea they could be that large! I thought that hinge part fold over and that was the size of the whole thing. Ok, thanks, I'll tell John to look for the frame in the same area! -L&J

Lisa,

If you go back and look at the pictures of the buckle....you can see the protrusions on both sides where the outer frame would have fitted/swiveled.

Check out the link and yours looks very similar to the 2nd from left top row missing the outer frame.

Aha! I see! Ok, Bill, thanks a bunch. I feel a bit foolish for not figuring that out. We'll look for the frame! -L

Lisa,

BTW before Cru corrects me my statement above about the swiveling it's the inner guts that do the swiveling and not the frame....:laughing7::laughing7::laughing7:

A very nice find! :occasion14:

I believe it is the inner part of a Georgian shoe buckle (c1720 - 1770's).

K, we've had that happen, too! Sometimes cuz the guts are iron. This one seems to be brass though. Thanks, -L&J

Hey guys--I just remembered about this giant buckle frame John found a few weeks back. Wouldn't it be cool if it fit these innards?? Probably just dreaming, as this frame probably had iron innards that rotted out. I'm going to ask him to try pairing them up anyway. Thanks everyone! -L&J
