Went back to the spot in Quebec where I have found my previous trade ring. The vegetation died out a bit more, so had the chance to explore the areas inaccessible before. There was a stream not far away that always interested me but the vegetation was just too thick. Started exploring the eroded edges and got a medium signal. After digging a bit found an other heart shaped ring with the heart design on it (is it Valentine's Day already?). The ring is far from the beautiful condition of my previous one but I'm still really happy with it. A few feet away a much stronger signal on the Deus and a medium size cross poppes out. Was sure it was a copper as it was covered in a thick brown crust (I assume from being exposed to the rising water and the organic matter in the stream). Only after getting home noticed the white edges showing from beneath the crust and after a minute in the lemon juice it was in the state it is today. The condition on this cross is just amazing and the attachment ring is so solid it could be worn today (I would have expected it get lousse with time and fall off). Also found what I believe to be a Native copper tinkler but contrary to the previous one this one has holes on the edge.

A great hunt and I'm super happy with my first Trade silver find.

The tinkler looking item may have been the tip to a knife sheath or scabbard?
Great recoveries ,congrats!

Love the silver cross and the ring. Tough call on the tinkler, they made them out of any sheet brass or copper that they could get their hands on, but the two holes could also indicate some other use.

Anton,

Great finds on the Jesuit ring and silver cross likewise as others have said not sure on the tinkler with the holes also the large size...most of the tinklers I've seen are much smaller minus the holes so as an alternate as someone mentioned might have been used as a knife/dagger chape.

Regards + HH

Really like looking at your finds. For the trade ring did they use it by chance to seal envelopes with a wax seal? Always curious about that.

Yeah, that shipley collection is nice. Cant believe one person has that many.
I have been wanting a copper/brasss cross. Silver hadnt even crossed my mind until i saw your post.
The cross you dug is real nice It would be hard for me not to have a chain made for it and wear it.
If i dug that baby, id probably keep that one in the display, but have a jeweler make a replica for me to wear.
As much as i love old copper and silver coins, i think i like your cross better.

Saw another one in Bennetts book that looked similar to yours. Not his actual book, but a webpage that illustrated several pages of his book.
Would love to have that one, but its a little out of my price range.

I doubt about the sealing part. I believe it's mostly a decorative item.
