Stopped by the dump for 10 minutes this morning while on my way to work. Found this there. It is an award for 25 years of continuous service in the Home Insurance Company of New York. Awarded in 1960, which means the employee started working for them in 1935! The medal weighs 63.3g - that's 2.03 Troy Ounces of Sterling!

I also found this medal as well, it is bronze and is from 1925 University of Philadelphia. On Ebay I saw the same one sold for $20.59, which is neat, I guess people collect old medals like this:

Sterling stamp is visible on the edge of the Home Insurance Medal:

There were a few other bronze medals at the dump that I stashed on the side, now that I know they are quite valuable I will try to bring them home tomorrow.

A few days ago I also found this Sterling Silver Navajo bracelet. It has stone inlaid into the silver and weighs 21 grams. It is 3 inches across, not very big, but I looked online and they are quite valuable - upwards of $100, I guess they are collectible as no two appear to be identical.

What kind of "dumps" do you have there in NY? You found some bronze medals there and you didn't even bother taking them home??? Huh?

Congrats on the finds! The insurance service award is amazing.

Silver Medallions and Bracelets ,
I'm heading to the dumps tomorrow.
Excellent saves.

If you're free we should one day plan a trip to Barren Island in Brooklyn, that's the biggest oldest municipal dump I know. I'll buy the beers too. No metal detectors allowed though, there's some sort of law that forbids it, but treasures there abound.

Nice finds. I would have just taken all the medals. Even base metal medals can be of significant value, and even the junk ones will generally bring a couple of bucks.

That is some awesome stuff. I wonder if she died and her heirs just threw stuff out? Guess you will never know. Nice finds
