Have half a jar full of clad so far and was wondering if I would ever find one. Went digging for 20 min in my alleyway outside my house today and found my first wheat. 1946 d. Pretty decent shape too. I put the headphones back on my AT Pro. It's amazing how many more signals I heard. Even on coin mode I found I was missing a bunch. It's way more comfortable not using the headphones. Especially out in the woods where I feel vulnerable with them on. The headphones just work better though.

Wheaties are great coins. I prefer Indian Heads, but I'm sure that is only because I remember Wheaties when they were still being minted. I had only had one Indian Head in my life prior to metal detecting, and that was one that was left behind in an old house my folks rented when I was a kid. But both are very handsome copper coins.

Great penny. Rub a little oil from your face on it. It brightens it up.
Do you wear your headphones on one ear? It gives the best of both worlds. Even on the beach or in the city I like to keep one ear to the ground and one for my surroundings.

Headphones use less power than the speaker, I always use headphones, I use the black widows in noisy areas and a cheap pair when it's hot out. Congrats on your 1st Wheatie. :occasion14: I think you'd do better if you continued to use headphones.

Congrats and now this will never get old as you are officially hooked. As stated, one ear in the headphone and one to the surroundings.

Congrats on your first Wheat. Took me a while to start finding them, but they are coming regularly now. I suspect the same will happen for you.
I didn't use headphones for the first couple of months for the same reason.........security in public spaces. A fellow TNetter urged me to use them for signal quality and clarity. It does make a difference!! My method is the one DigToChina suggested......one ear on, one off.

I hate headphones on land. I have to wear them underwater but I go without them on land. I enjoy the woods and I don't think I miss too many targets but if I do. I do, not a big deal to me.

You will find many many more wheat cents. Congrats on getting your first.
