I wanted to hit a woods spot down by the river before six day firearm which starts Monday here in New Jersey. Things get a little crowded in the woods and sometimes buckshot is flying around. I didn't find a lot of targets down here, scenery is nice, I did find that cool police whistle (works good) After getting cut up and bleeding from the briers I decided to go hit the cornfield I found that 1783 half Real in. I got in an end that is very riddled with iron. I dug much trash because I have to dig all iffy signals near all that iron. I did come up with this cool button, the back-mark says, Scoville MFG Co Waterbury
It measures approximately 16mm I cleaned it in distilled water with a short soak and a toothbrush, I bent the shank back up (just a C hair, as they say in the construction business) so I could brush it a little better. I'm including a couple pix Scrappy sent me to help identify my crushed two piece.
Enjoy the pix

Old whistles are always great finds. Probably made of pewter or lead so don't blow on it too much! Looks like it's got some writing on it as well - always a bonus!

Congrats on the button Brad, that whistle is cool to. Seems like you had to work hard today, hope that site continues to produce.

It's not lead or pewter, probably made in 1930's

Maybe someday I'll get that book, but then I wouldn't get to bug Scrappy Coco, thanks

That button cleaned up well. And I like the whistle too.

I was never in the construction trades Bradley, but still smiled at the "C hair", as a unit of measurement!

Best of luck to you my friend!

Thanks Kevin, hard work is a state of mind, I have to pace myself, it's not really going anywhere. I hope they knock down the corn stalks, although I don't think they do that until spring, I'll be in the water shivering. The whistle works good, I'll keep it for bear hunting (***** whistle) scares the hell out of black bears (so I'm told)

I surmised a bird or duck hunter using this whistle for his dog, where I was hunting there was allot of hunting activity, I pulled at least 30 headstamps the three or four times I have been back there.

Congratualtions on the productive relic hunt! :occasion14:
Thanks Prof
