Went on what will probably be the last hunt of the season. It's pretty cold and we are expecting a few inches of snow this week. Was really hoping to get my 12th Spanish Real in as many months. Well I believe I got better, in my opinion anyways.
Got to a field I only briefly explored last year only to find that it's infested with square nails. My Deus was going absolutely crazy! Was ready to leave but remembered what Iron Patch told me about those kind of early iron infested sites... So switched to Deus Fast and decided to give it an other try. Within 2 minutes got my first coin Bank of Montreal 1844 Half Penny. Few minutes later my very first Seated Liberty Dime 1853. Was super excited about this find as it's my second US silver and it's condition is absolutely beautiful! Than within a half an hour William IV Six Pence 1834 (my first William IV coin). Also got a few beautiful civilian buttons with gold guild and an unknown stone tool.

A nice little hunt!

I will also post a pic of an other stone tool (the last 3 pictures) I have found few days ago. Have absolutely no idea about its use. It's completely flat on one side and looks worked.

All great stuff Aureus. If that's going to be your last hunt, at least it was a wonderful one. Nice British silver

Don't recall ever seeing a William IV posted here at TN, I think they were only minted for 6 years,
are they common finds on your side of the block?
Killer condition Seated as well,
Kudos!

Thank You. Yes, I'm glad the last hunt of the season was good. But in the same time, makes me wonder what's left in that field. Was my first serious hunt there. After a few inches of snow today and freezing temperature I will have to wonder for at least 4,5 months.

Thank You.
No, they are pretty uncommon. By far the most common pre-1850 finds are George III or Victoria silvers. That said, from what I have seen, any British silver is pretty rare. In the 12 months found 4 French 1450-1705 silver coins, 11 Spanish Reales and only 3 British Six Pence and one Shilling (only one being William).

A lot can depend on what period of sites you hunt. Some of the years in the beginning we could hunt all fairly early sites and it was uncommon to see something like a William or Victoria sixpence or shilling, but then we had to start creeping more into the 19th century and I have at least a dozen of them from more recent years.

Thanks!
It might. Definitely looks like a tool sharpening stone.

Yes. I agree, depends on the site. But from what I have seen George or Vicky seem to be more common.

Great capper to an incredible year for you. I'd love to see a year end post my friend of your best finds. Sadly I may have to do one soon....but I'm going to attempt to scratch out a couple more keepers before I throw in the towel
