Pretty rough condition, but if I'm right it's my first large cent and my oldest coin so far. It's definitely right facing, looks like "LIBERTY" across the top and the date starts with 18--, though I can't decipher the last two numbers. I can't make much of the other side. I think it's an 1800s draped bust.

That's not a draped bust. It is a capped liberty.
Early. Nice find. Crusader. Said also. There is a cap on her head.
Hh gl. Greast find. Very early coin

My eyes might be playing tricks but does anyone else see a cap on her head ?

I see a Draped Bust... Liberty cap is the one that looks like a toboggan cap.

Excellent find Islandscope! Congrats.

Nice Draped Bust. A giveaway is the lack of the staff over lady liberty's shoulder, where as you see a more rounded bust on this coin.

Again scrappy you seem correct , it looked like a cap behind her head

Yeap, & I can see the Cap behind bust

Sorry, but you're wrong. The easiest way to tell is the word "liberty" is in a different position in relation the the top of the head. I've only dug 5 draped bust cents, but I do know what they look like! I'd kill for a liberty cap cent!

I'm thinking I see it too, the original poster (islandscope) needs to get some clear pix of both coins and compare his with the pix to see what he thinks. Oil her up real good and look at her in the natural light of day (I kindof like saying that) you should be able to tell.

Either one is a hell of a first LC to find, good job!

Absolutely a Draped Bust. Some careful cleaning may get your the last 2 digits. Unfortunately a lot of those older coppers can be a challenge on deciphering a date. Great find regardless.
