update: thanks for all the comments for these finds, ive been looking at them all day, this site was settled as early as 1712 so it could have been buried then or a later time, but i will not scrap, separate, or sell, in case anybody was wandering......Just went to a new field where a early 1900s house was and pulled a silver half and Rosie. Then I get a deep faint target and over a foot deep I get this silver plated case. And 4 gold rings inside! They tested at least 10k except one is 18k. Holy crap, I'm still out here in the field going at it, but had to post this. 1 has a date of 1730 and another has a date of 1732. Could they be this old? Will get more pics when I get home

Some more pics real quick, looks like the tin they were in is silver! 1 ring says nothing, 1 says g p g 22 Jan 1732 on inside, 1 says hearts united live contented on inside, and last one says George king obe 4 oct 1730

There's a marking on the tin they were in, see pic

On the George King ring I'm fairly sure it would have been produced in memory of a George King who died on the 4th of October 1730. The Obe (usually just ob) is intended as a contraction of obit to indicate that's when he died.

I've had a quick look to see if I can find a match but nothing came up unfortunately

No, that's not possible. King George II (father of King George the III, the infamous English monarch during the American Revolutionary War) was the British monarch in 1730 and he did not die that year; he reigned for many more years. I have a really outlandish idea: Two Cherokee chiefs, and 5 attending Cherokee nobles were visiting London in 1730, and in an exchange of gifts, ratified the seminal treaty between the English and the Cherokee, the Whitehall treaty, in Sept. Now, we know at least one of the Cherokee chiefs wore finger rings at that time, because two rings were stolen from one of the chiefs by a brazen London chippy who pawned them. Her crime was discovered, and the rings were returned to the Cherokee. According to press reports, the Cherokee delegation did not take its leave of the Royal family at Windsor until August 5th, and that "The day before the Indian Chiefs left Windsor, they went to take their leave of the Court, at which time his Majesty was pleased to present them with a purse of one hundred guineas.." A guinea was worth 1 pound plus 1 shilling, so 100 guineas was a sizeable fortune back then. That would have been August 4th! As far as I've been able to research, that's the only really notable thing that happened that day involving King George. Perhaps the report in the press overlooked that other gifts were given, such as a ring, which would have been insignificant compared to 100 guineas. I think it's not unlikely that this ring was later inducted into the American family's keeping when a family member picked it up, perhaps it was sold by an impoverished Cherokee, or stolen from the cherokee in a skirmish or raid. The Cherokee stuck with the British during the Revolutionary War, and fought the Americans, as only the British crown offered them any real protection from the depredations of American settlers and land speculators. OBE is probably the goldsmith's mark. I wish a photo of the rest of the inscription would be uploaded for us to check out.

A cheap one until I can decide on a very good brand-name one to buy.

Could your case have the silver mark for Dumfries Scottish Provincial silver? Looks really close to me. Can't find an EH maker though.

Dumfries Silver Marks

That left-facing unicorn head has got to be related to Dumfries but the mark is not the same... only the same left-facing unicorn. What do you think Cru?

E. H. could also be a gunsmith or a watchmaker... not necessarily a silver or goldsmith. I found an Erskine Heron, Edinburgh 1752; clockmaker....

Not sure, Dumfries is a pretty rare mark that I know nothing on.
EH will be the Silver/Gold Smiths makers mark.

It's the unicorn 🦄 I was bringing attention to (only the unicorn).

I want to hear what an expert tells Crabby so bad! Lol.

Incredible BANNER! I keep looking at that first photo of the recovered cache, first out of the ground, and let my imagination run wild about the history and circumstances that led up to your great fortune! :notworthy:

Might not be a unicorn mark-----I found this similar mark, its an unofficial hallmark from France 1795-1797, Association Des Orf'evres --- punzonefrancia12.jpg

Congrats!! Amazing find. Personally, I would not guess on these, but take them to the museum that could (or would refer someone who could) provide a positive id on this find.

That is the nicest find I have seen posted here. That would be the ultimate bucketlister. The first find that I would vote permanent Banner!
