update: thanks for all the comments for these finds, ive been looking at them all day, this site was settled as early as 1712 so it could have been buried then or a later time, but i will not scrap, separate, or sell, in case anybody was wandering......Just went to a new field where a early 1900s house was and pulled a silver half and Rosie. Then I get a deep faint target and over a foot deep I get this silver plated case. And 4 gold rings inside! They tested at least 10k except one is 18k. Holy crap, I'm still out here in the field going at it, but had to post this. 1 has a date of 1730 and another has a date of 1732. Could they be this old? Will get more pics when I get home

Some more pics real quick, looks like the tin they were in is silver! 1 ring says nothing, 1 says g p g 22 Jan 1732 on inside, 1 says hearts united live contented on inside, and last one says George king obe 4 oct 1730

There's a marking on the tin they were in, see pic

thanks for the additional pics. What an incredible find!

Couple things:

I bet that case is solid silver

The one with black enamel may be a mourning ring?

Are you sure they are 10k? As Cru noted, it's an odd karat for old British rings

Wow! This is what we are all dreaming of when swinging in an area with history. Man, I would have most likely passed on a weak target so deep. These are for me always rusty nails even if they are beeping in the silver range. I would love to hear more details on what it rang up as and your decision process on digging. Congrats!!

Got me ?

:)

I was out working on a project and all I can picture in my head is your find...

This is a phenom find... and then some.

Handle these pieces with great care.

Do not let others handle them AT ALL without being in a plastic
THICK baggie individually...

Don't rub them... don't clean them... don't even look at them wrong... heh

Not only is what you have found extremely rare...

BUT... they are in immaculate condition... Keep it that way.

This is a DREAM FIND...of / for treasure / history hunters.

Truly an incredible find!! I was a little confused at first about what was being discussed about karat markings, especially since I don't believe they appeared on gold jewelry until the very end of the 18th century. But I guess you know the purity due to checking it yourself. In the 4th pic with the inscription "Hearts ....", that should be a posy ring. Posy rings reached the height of their popularity in the 17[SUP]th[/SUP] century, and were given by both men and women to each other as an expression of friendship or love. They included a short, amorous inscription and were commonly used as wedding rings. In the 6th pic, the date likely indicates this is a mourning ring which were commissioned after the death of a loved one and frequently included the name and date of death of the person being honored. And in the last 2 pics those are makers marks. If these turn out to be legit it would be an absolutely amazing find. WTG man!!!
