3.5 hrs out on a, Cru would say: "low priority", field.
Although a Roman site isn't far away, just some shards told of their presence. Not much to show findswise, best was to spend the afternoon in the great outdoors with temperatures around freezing, strong wind pushing the snowflakes horizontally in the face, boots weighting 10 pounds each, mud up to the ankles, the coil covered in mud, spade covered in mud, me covered in mud and so on.... :laughing7: Did i mention i love this hobby?
I like to go again right now, but my complete equipment is soaked, sorry. :occasion14:

Haha, I looked like that last week right down to the snow! Great pictures to capture the moment.

What would the age of that buckle keeper be? 18th C?

Thanks Scrappy! Not sure on the buckle, thinking military, no markings rule out 20thC. Thick patina looks like it has some years on it. :dontknow:

Hey Bill! Got nailed down at home because of frozen ground the last two weeks or so. Warm weather this week made it possible to detect, next frost is coming though...

No-one can call us fair weather Detectorist!
We started in the snowy rain yesterday but it eased off pretty quickly.

As we are both doing right now ticking off some low-priority fields in the hope of a good area, or maybe that 1 good find that surprises you in an otherwise dead field.

Congrats on some nice finds. If you are heading to the car wash, you should just throw your detector, pin pointer and shovel in the bed of the truck and let 'er go !!

Metal Detecting can be an Extreme Sport... if you do it right. Congrats. It's really cool to find such a mixture of targets. BTW, last week I was metal detecting in 36 deg temp and 25 mph winds...and that was in Florida!

Glad you're getting out Lu but could I suggest a trip to the Pub next time in that weather? You can get your exercise doing 12 oz. curls and pay for it by the money you saved not going to the car wash. Better luck next time.
