i found 1853 trime there yesterday, and my friend found 1858 flying eagle there in amazing shape

They were dropped civil war or later most likely. Ive always found large cents on early 1800s sites. Could have been a colonial house that burned and was rebuilt much later

Also that GR piece is something important, but I'll wait for the experts to chime in.

The engraving above the "GR" looks like a variation on the Sovereign's Orb. Was that a common motif in those days?

Definitely a French and Indian War to Revolutionary War period brass sword hilt. Strong French influence, but the Continental Army used them a lot. An excellent find for any year.

Nice Smokey. I've seen similar French pieces from about then.

The sword hilt is an incredible find. What a killer site you're on!
I agree with Brad on the GR keyhole cover.

Killer sword block and clamshell. Most people find one or the other, or just fragments of one, but you found both pieces intact and connected.
The broken part was likely attached to the part that would guard the knuckles.
Looks early 18th to late 17th century.
Here is a good link that shows a similar one.

Look at court sword item #22. There are many more that are similar if you have the patience to scroll through the whole catalog

Another banner find. Wish i had a site that was drying up like that :-).

For some odd reason, most padlock covers had the crowns initials on them.

This is a wild guess, but I wonder if it was for tax reasons. I'd think a padlock would be a intricate mechanism and maybe the crown taxed them.

Silver had a George bust Duty Mark.... So maybe something similar. Just a guess though.

Great finds! VMI and I were at the relic show a couple weekends ago down here in Charleston and VMI showed him the sword plate he found. The guy said that American hilt plates were very basic with little details whereas french and British were more elaborate. VMI might be able to recall what else he said but theres a little something i hope.
