Went out on the river with Gigmaster to one of his good spots and found some great stuff yesterday!
It was cold out and had rained a bit that morning, we were hoping for a nice low tide to access some more of the shallow water areas along the shoreline. Most of the hunting was done in the water or right at the tide line.
It had started off a bit slow with both of us just digging aluminum but then after a bit things started to pick up. The first good find for me was the sweet silver (and my first) 1876 Seated Liberty Quarter in pretty good shape except for the scratches it has from when I dug it outta the rocks.
The flat button was next, no marks on either side and the loop is missing.
We both dug a few Civil War bullets, I pulled one 3 ringer minnie ball and 2 (I believe) Sharps Carbine bullets.
This iron lump I believe is some kind of hammer/hatchet type thing and I have it soaking in some apple cider vinegar to get the rust off so I can get a better idea. Added a picture of something it may look like but not exact.
This was by far my best find of the day (and oldest ANYTHING to date...) and also the LAST find of the day! The tide had come back up and I was still banging around when I got a mixed signal that I thought was going to be some kind of trash. Not even close.....No idea what it was until today and some people here at home jumped on it and were able to get as better ID (thanks guys!) It looks to be a Nuremberg Jetton poss made between 1586-1603 based on where I see the placement of the letters that are visible. You can see the "S" from Hans and the "SCH" from Schultes so poss Hans Schultes II or Maybe III which would push it to 1635 I believe but I know there are others here who have seen and found these before. The obverse side is trashed and nothing can be seen. I have not cleaned it or anything, just fresh water rinse, pat dry and placed in coin sleeve for now. Would anyone recommend cleaning it or anything or just leave it is is in the sleeve? Not sure it there is any real value to it other than it's pretty damn old for being found in the US!
Any thoughts or comments on it are welcome, I'm not 100% sure I have the dates nailed down correctly but I may be close.
