My buddy and I got out for a few hours today and stumbled into a skirmish area. I dug two mini balls (one was high impact), ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1485042907.409091.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1485042939.244187.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1485042953.442036.jpg part of a harmonica and this unusual pin or hat badge. It's missing the left side of the wreath, but it's mostly there. It has a small eagle sitting over what looks like a cartridge box. Does anyone know what this is? My buddy dug three fired mini Balls and a large chunk of an artillery shell.

Great stuff, Fullstock! I absolutely love CW relics and would like to be a little closer to the action, you guys are lucky! At our llocal fairgrounds, there was a CW encampment and while I have pulled a lot of coins, I've not had luck with the relics. We've pulled a LOT of silver in one area half the size of a football field and not much elsewhere...im thinking a lot of earth has been rearranged. Sorry, no help with the badge/pin but it is beautiful...thx, ddf.

I would guess trunk or furniture decoration

Could be but the reverse shot gives all the clues.
Horse Rosette is another possibility at this point.....

Here is a picture of the back. This piece is stamped brass, but not exceptionally thin. I see no indication of holes for it to be attached to furniture or a trunk. As I said, this was found in a skirmish area with shot bullets and pieces of shrapnel from artillery shells.

Does that look like a small latch on the back,rt side? Perhaps a personal item of a soldier. Dn

I just noticed that myself, it does look like it might have had some remains of a catch on the back.

Could it be half of a sash buckle?

I believe it is civilian. Too much decorative scrolling. If military, then it would have numbers or letters on it, as well as something indicating country of origin... eagle, lion etc.

I am not sure what it is, just relatively sure it isn't military.

Nice find, and good luck sir!
