Hard to believe it's January 22nd and actually able to get out detecting this weekend. Usually here in Massachusetts this time of year the ground is like boilerplate!

Started out with a couple buddies at an old trolley park outside of town that was super popular in the late 19th century:

We've been there a lot over the years, in fact my father and his brother hit up this area pretty well back in the 80's when they first started. Mike S. recently used some cool new map technology to overlay old maps with new, so we thought we had found an otherwise unsearched area of the park. But alas, almost 4 hours of hunting turned up not much in the way of finds.

Still had about an hour to kill so we decided to try a favorite spot be a local lake, fully wooded on one entire half. Many many finds have come out of those woods over the years, posted here on the TreasureNet from time to time. Suffice to say I didn't expect anything exciting.

NEVER say an area is hunted out! Not long after we arrived within view of the water, Mike finds a wheatie..."We should stay right around here" he says. Minutes later I get a nice 75 on the F75, and out comes this key date Barber. Psyched! Finding silver is always a thrill...to find a key date, doesn't happen very often...but a silver key date with AU details, that makes it a trifecta!

Thanks for looking, hope all of you up here in the Northeast are taking advantage of the thawed ground,

Steve

That's a great coin you found. Too bad it was cleaned or it might have been worth a lot more?
