Todd Hiltz & myself got out to a couple Cellar holes today.1st site coughed up some buttons and fizzled out.We then moved onto next site.It was real quiet there.on the backside of the cellar I got one button and turns out to be a Admiral Vernon Button...circa 1739-1750.unfortunately it looked better dirty as the dirt filled in the pits. Also from the same site was this 1600's laten spoon bowl. Thanks to the guys on American military button page for all the input and IDing it for me.last site coughed up some designed dandy buttons and the tiniest axe head I ever seen.also dug a WWII Naval honorable discharge stud at a newer cellar. Was a great day to be out.

A killer button, and other great finds. Like you, I've never seen an axe head that small. My wife collects vintage cast iron and has multiple miniature cast iron items that were made to be manufacturer trinkets and toys to be given away to customers, so this may fit that category. Congrats!
thanks tommy! here it is all cleaned up

Man that's a killer button Dave! !! Holy crap! There's so much history tied up in that one find. The spoon bowl is pretty incredible too. I'm pretty curious about the tiny axe...perhaps for making match sticks? I'm just kidding of course hehehe. Oh, and I'm heading back to page 1 to cast my banner vote now. Congratulations!

Awesome button buddy! My rare GW also didn't make it up top. I guess civil war buttons are where it's at? Too bad for me then, cause all I have around here is revolutionary. Hope yours makes it up top, banner vote in.

Great stuff! Banner, for sure!!
Dave, your mini axe is likely the Nearly Square (American made) Pre-Revoluutionary Axe, that had a POLL or head outweighing its BIT.
Book source" - A Museum of Early American Tools by Eric Sloane , 1992 pg 11......kinda there in book, but saw one, when I visited
the museum in CT.
