Hi

2/11 - UPDATE - jeweler confirmed 14K GOLD!!!!!

Crazy Weather here last 3 days – Tuesday everything was covered in ice. Yesterday was 62 degreees and sunny. Today heavy snow with 12-18” expected.

So got out into the 60 degrees yesterday afternoon. Found $2.07 in clad , a 1954 Canadian penny and this which rang up a 59 on At Pro:

On a mens softball field –shallow center field. 59 VDI about 4-5” deep.

Looks and feels real nice and heavy – BUT its not stamped – what does the jury say???

I hope its real - will probably put on a chain and wear....

Thoughts? I will take it to a jeweler - but the lack of a hallmark makes me wonder/doubt......

Sure looks real. Look really close for pops in the plating.

I got a piece of silver jewelry the other day that was NOT marked, but was good.

Congrats.

Sometimes the stamping of, say 10k, is hidden in the design or maybe along the side/right on the edge. A friend found a ring that looked like gold but he couldn't find any marks. I looked and found it but it was hidden in the back of the design and hard to see.

If it was 4 plus inches deep and junk you'd think the plating would have some abuse to it based on it being in the soil for a while.

59 is a good # for gold on the at pro. I'm guessing it is gold.

Looks good! Congrats on a nice gold find! Look really close at the inside for a mark. Sometimes the hallmark is cast into the item as opposed to stamped and makes it much harder to see.

I think that's the real deal. Well done. I could do without the 12" + of snow we're expecting up here in Massachusetts....oh well. I guess it is February after all.

Looks real to me. Like xr7ator mentioned, if it's plated, it wouldn't look as good as it does!

Thx all - 16" and still dumping here.

Yes - need to find the chain - did the immediate area, but in retrospect not as big a perimeter as I should have.

I used the AT PRO for 2 years.
Chains are really hard to get a good signal on.
They sometimes come in as a blip. It's a dig everything approach. Good luck buddy.

If it popped out of 5" of dirt and was shiny gold, heavy and no degradation of the eyelet or back, I would say gold!!!

Awesome! Let's review, VDI was 59 at 4" on the ATPro. An Item of that size, gold plated over brass or copper, would bang in the range of a quarter probably (83-88). But with the low VDI, right in the range for gold, I am going to bet it probably is gold, and well worth testing. Awesome find! Sub 8-)
