Traveled a little today looking for some erosion like this. Not a lot of coins but did manage one no date Merc & Rosie and two wheats. Two 14K Gold rings one with stones.
When I got home I kept looking at this big spoon and decided to try and clean it up a bit with my dremel. It's Silver with some hallmarks on it. Tried to show a pic of the marks.
One box has the letters MET and the other has an 84 with some kind of design? Any clues on the origin?

Thanks For Lookin' & Good Luck Out There

I was able to find out some background info on the spoon. It's Russian circa 1896-1908. The stamp is the first Kokoshnik stamp issued by Tsar Niholas II in 1896. The engraving is a woman's head facing left with a peasant headdress called a kokoshnik. I think the assayer's initials are for Ivan Sergeyvich Lebedkin. The number 84 represents .875 Silver content. Weighs in @ 78.5 g. I'm working on the clean up.

That is a cut and a half. Very nice scores also. I would get back there and hit it harder before it is too late!

Nice finds, wildcarrot.........the gold rings must really get the heart pumping!!
Thanks for the tip on erosion cuts.........never really thought about them. Here in PA it's more about fresh dirt exposed from excavation..............
