Found an old axe head in the woods today. Hoping some experts could give me some clarity. My detecting partner believes it's Celtic. It reads a 55 on the v3i. Thanks for the help 20170219_174357.jpg 20170219_174128.jpg 20170219_174123.jpg

Ran into any trouble with the Archeologist?

Did he skrew around with regard to permission by Denkmalschutzbehörde?

Confirmed with archaeologist today. An 1800s find. BC.

When Crusader and Westfront agree, it leaves little doubt in my head. Wow, congrats again. That's a once-in-a-lifetime find, and a banner IMHO.

No sir. Just suggested I bring it to the museum as they might wish to display it.

I had little doubt as well. Those 2 are obviously extremely knowledgeable. On of the reasons this site is awesome.

I personally enjoy when they start talking about really old sites and relics. Almost sounds like a different language (and some is). At any rate, they both certainly add quite a bit to the sum total of what makes Tnet great.

Thanks Scrappy, T-Net is is great because we all share our knowledge, no matter if it's a special field of activity or just common sense. You can learn something new any day here.

I agree, as a collective we are strong. I might have a lot to share but I have learnt just as much as the next man.

Not a Sir, just me :-). I am not "The man" or something.

It may be very hard to part with this, but it also be one of the earliest items in the local Museum. I think I would in your place.

Also your face in the local Newspaper "Metal Detectorist finds oldest Axe in XXX" may actually be very cool.

Haha. Southern roots and army training, can't help it.

Imo, that should be up top. May be normal for you guys over the pond but for me, that's just incredible.
Let me rephrase the above. It might be "normal" as in archeological finds and artifacts found in museums, however for one of us fellow metal detectorists this has to be a rare find. Banner vote in.

My first Banner Vote!

Even in Europe you can detect for years without finding an Bronze Age item.

That said it is not only rate but also in very good condition.

I thought about this and put a vote in too. It's a rare find. And for us dectectorists it can't get much older.

Just the fact that you have gone as far back as you can in metal detecting in your area says a lot . Very nice save. I can not imagine that age frame unless it is in stone.

Congrats on a banner find. I hope you display it for many to see, wherever it ends up. That's one of the coolest finds I've ever seen on tnet
