Found an old axe head in the woods today. Hoping some experts could give me some clarity. My detecting partner believes it's Celtic. It reads a 55 on the v3i. Thanks for the help 20170219_174357.jpg 20170219_174128.jpg 20170219_174123.jpg

Congratulations on a well deserved banner rebbel31! That is one amazing find and its awesome to see the collective knowledge on here help with the proper ID. When I saw this post, I thought of Ötzi the icemans axe. :notworthy: Although Ötzi was 1400 years or so older and had a copper axe. It's mind blowing for me to think of finding something like that.

Very similar to the ice man's axe, apparently copper would have been extremely expensive back then which is why the axe is so small. Likely the copper axe was one of the most valuable possessions a man back then could own.

I personally enjoy when they start talking about really old sites and relics. Almost sounds like a different language (and some is). At any rate, they both certainly add quite a bit to the sum total of what makes Tnet great.

I'm Lovin to learn more 'World' History & ancient peoples tools & Artifacts.
Just wish I started when I was Younger.

There's always meteorites!

Congratz on the Super Cool Old Find, I Really want a Meteorite ,I have been in love with them & then Falling Departed Cousins.
I'd have no problem letting a Museum borrow the Piece, I just would hate to see it boxed away somewhere tho.
But
Hey many of my finds are boxed away, Display space is always an issue.

Sorry I tend to get Sidetracked .

Also, some of the smaller ones are found in Burial Mounds, made for burial with high status individuals.

Unbelievable. I'm so excited to find a 19th century coin in the ground every now and again, you forget how many really old finds there are out there still to be discovered. Think about who the owner was, and you get to be the only other person to touch it between then and now. Congratulations on the banner!

Just wanted to thank all who helped me quickly identify my extremely lucky find. Proof that any bumbling fool with a md can find something cool. Thanks for all the votes as well. I gotta say yall picked the right pic too. It looks best all dirtied up fresh out of the ground. Lastly, to quote the great Joe Dirt "Life's a garden, Dig it."

Not agreeing with you as such but there is no easy way to 'target' the Bronze Age, so what you do need is lots of luck to wander over one. Very little planning is possible, without prior Archie intel.

I can't add much to what has already been said, but congratulations on an amazing find! I think most of us can agree that this is why we do what we do. Not just the temptation of finding lost riches, but rather the desire to feel and experience a real connection to history, and those who came before us, is what truly motivates us. Thank you for sharing a spectacular find with us.
