During mid 1800's European immigrants inhabited a place called smoky hollow. It quickly became predominantly Italian in the early teens due to the steel mills booming. By the 60's it was on a decline. Well the area is extremely dirty, I carry a five gallon bucket around. It also was home of the great flood of 1913, one of the lowest spots in Youngstown. They removed 2-3 inches of dirt in a two acre parcel so far. I have been digging lots of copper and brass, and also picking late 1800 bottles from a couple inches below. Soon four feet of dirt will be removed since a company is expanding and I have permission to tear it up. Found a couple Wheaties, no silver yet. 15 gallons of garbage, and this nice lock.
The weekend also consisted an old farm house in the middle of the city. Dates back to the 1880's. I detected this house last year and had a handful of Indians and a silver half. This year I got one off the bucketlist. An 1847 large cent, merc, and a handful of Wheaties. Feels good to detect again.

Looks like they made a wizzer out of your Large Cent, very cool. The ones with hole in em give them more character. Nice lock, how long before they dig again and how long will everything be diggable?

Congratulations on some excellent finds and on having access to a good spot. I would walk it down, each time that they scrape surface dirt. You might be able to salvage some nice glass and pottery.
Congrats again.

Congratualtions on the nice finds! The Large Cent was probably made into a child's wizzer toy...very cool find! :occasion14:
