Buttons found in Civil War site

I found both of these button in a spot where confederate items are being found. Both buttons are back marked Benedict & Burnham extra. A google search revealed that Benedict & Burnham made buttons between 1834 and 1843. I'm assuming that these were most likely civilian buttons used by the confederates, but by chance, is there any military significance to them?

Like you said they were probably worn by the troops since they didn't have many supplies for soldiers and those buttons were accessible. Nice finds! Love that you found the matching pair.
