Had some free time today and we hit a field that we have been to a few times.
We have been trying to "date" this field for a couple weeks.
Sorry I didn't have a ruler for scale. instead I used an ink pen.
Here are the finds.

The three items above the ink pen came out of the same hole. Very large iron buckle of some sort, two brass rivets with the leather still attached and what I think is a wrought iron "cotter pin". I "assume" the buckle and the rivets and leather came from some sort of horse tack?

The little buckle has an "1854" stamp on it. From what I can find on the internet is that it is probably a buckle off of suspenders or a buckle for tightening trousers. Anyone have a better idea?

Two flat buttons. Only one of them can I barely make out any details. It appears to be a wreath of some sort with wheat on it? I can make out a couple letters around the outside but nothing definitive. It seems to have been a two piece button. The back has the design on it and the other side is smooth and very silver in color. (We have found several other double gilt buttons at the same site).

Near the tip of the ink pen in the picture there is what I assume is some sort of brass rivet or some sort of "post" that something used to fasten to it. Then there is what we assume to be a door plate where a key would have been inserted.
Was very nice to get out and about with the wife today and dig up some history. I hope many of you were able to do so!

Congratulations on a nice hunt. I would figure suspended buckle from the size and design.

Looking at the old buckle, I would say that you may be on a colonial time period site.
Congrats on getting out.

Based on the finds you posted, flat buttons and buckles, your site appears to have been active from about 1830 to 1860. The buckle with the date is for tightening trousers. Keep hitting it, you might get a Large Cent or Seated silver.

The button looks like it could be a George Washington inaugural - does it say " long live the president " ?

Could you post a few more pics of the button ? Could make banner if it's one of the more rare varieties !

Old Hand , if this button is a G.W. inaugural it is an immportant find - not trying to be a pest ,but if you could put up more pictures - you may be able to keep this post from sliding into obscurity . You might re- post this find with a new title , something like - "possible GW button found - seeking experts" ( there's one on the banner now)
