I hit a park yesterday that has given up some colonial buttons and early silver over the years. I know that there was a documented Revolutionary War Battle that took place in this park. I was on a search for some Silver but it just wasn't to be. When I got home, I cleaned up my finds so I could post a few pictures. While cleaning a piece that seemed to be encased in a tar like substance, I noticed a glint of gold. I soaked it in lemon juice and slowly but surely, I was able to expose the remains of a gold cufflink. There are no hallmarks or karat stamps, but this bad boy is gold. Now the question is, how old is it?
Among the 76 coin total, I managed 11 deep wheat pennies. I never get tired of digging wheat. One of the wheat pennies is a 1930s and it is in good shape, After cleaning it, I put it in a coin folder. The s mint mark isn't all that common in the New York area.

The cuff link is very cool but without any backmark and at a site that gives up everything from rev war to wheat pennies it is likely impossible to determine how old it actually is. Still neat find.

Very nice hunt! I'm going to get here but I think the cufflink is very old. Got a gold tester?

Congrats and HH

Cool finds. I would def get the gold color piece tested. Hard to tell in pics. Looks like gold gilt on the back.
