Found an interesting railways token at a church a stones throw away from the train tracks that run along my area. Sometimes I like the tokens more than coins! Also a 39 merc, and a 1903 v nickel and unable to get a date off of the buffalo. Two wheaties also. Nothing crazy just thought I'd share the token for the people that are into those! GL, HH...

Nice token. I believe there is 3 or 4 different versions of that railway token.
I have a few in my display case. They mean a lot to me because I manage the power dept for the pgh port authority and spend every day on the rails

Really.....that's cool to know. Hope we find more! I totally see your attachment to them too. The tracks behind my house were completed in the early 1870's. I'd like to spend some time detecting parallel to them for a couple hunts.

It's really hard to hunt along the rails. Lots and lots of scrap metal has been deposited over the years. I tried a couple areas on our rail and sounded like a machine gun in my ears lol

Lol. I like to go in the woods along the tracks. Seems a tad better. I figure there had to be campsites, and temporary dwellings for when they built the rail system......I'd guess..

What's amazing is how modern tech has changed that use to take forever to build the railroads.

Now I watch our guys change a 100 yard section of rail in an hour. No more camps needed lol.

Metal detecting in the future is gonna suck. They are gonna say all those guys back in early 2000 found the cool stuff. Like we say about silver and the guys in the 70s and 80's

Lol, the next generation of hunters wont have to worry about finding these crappy coins. There isn't gonna be anything left of them by then! I dig pennies from the 2000's that are nearly eroded in half!

Oh, and congrats on your latest find too. What a keeper!

Thanks a lot. Never expected to find that in a Pittsburgh park

Your right about the coins. Pennies from our era will be worth millions because they all rotted away in the ground. Forget 1909. 1999 will be a key date in 2117
