I was at a local park today. There was quite a bit of iron in the ground! My last dig, I dig this gem up. I think it's a 1904 Liberty Head V nickel but not too sure... thoughts?

??04 Yeah I concur. Mine looks that crusty also. Not very common to find one in the ground without that crusty appearance. Very cool though. Congrats.

Congrats on the V nickel. Unfortunately, most nickels from the ground are NOT in very good shape.

Still counts though.

Best of luck to you!

Just seen a program on the travel channel about this coin. The "cents" was put on this coin after a fellow decided to exploit the previous version that Had no "cents" by gold plating and passing for a 5 dollar gold piece.

My apologies the story pertains to the 1883 version. Still an interesting story about a version of the coin.

Some attribute the saying "I’m just joshing you" (a phrase which means to fool or mess with somebody) to the story of Josh Tatum.

Look it up
