UPDATE! BADGE ID'ed!
See below!

Outside of it being SUPER windy today, it wasn't
too bad if one was dressed and prepared for it. ;)

Anyway, I've been hitting this "field of dreams" for as long as I can
because they may be planting soon and I'll be finished. Also,
if they plant corn this year, this fall will be a struggle for me! :(

So, anyhoo, I get started and a part of the section I'm working is lousy
with trash! I'm going to need a really rested day before I can tackle this
part seriously. I touch on it and it does surprise now and then. But, it's
like listening to a machine gun! :(

I'm going along and I get yet another "can" hit! I was already tired and
I'd only been there 30 minutes! :( I called it, "can!" and walked on toward
more quiet grounds. But, I only got about 5 feet beyond it and I got an
uncomfortable feeling about leaving that "can". Usually, I'm pretty good
at going back to it and dig anyway. This time I was fighting it for another
5 feet. BUT....it just kept nagging at me! :dontknow: So, I went back.

I halfheartedly flipped a plug, intending to throw this can as far as I could
for bothering me! ::)

This is what I saw:

2017 (249).jpg
2017 (250).jpg

BOY! Was my face red!!! :tongue3:
You'd think that after all HE's done for me, that I would know better! LOL

Still, when the day starts this well, is it wrong to think that maybe, just maybe,
this day was going to be EXCEPTIONAL?

It didn't turn out bad, how could it with this in my pocket already!? LOL

But, exceptional? Well, I'll let you decide:

The home plate looking thing in the lower right is a mystery.
Pretty heavy, the back isn't much help.

2017 (245).jpg

But, it did come with a small clue. ;)

Not the best day, but, not too shabby either.
Hope you enjoyed.

Thanks for peeking!

Nice digs today! I wonder if the pin is from Lodge # 1, B.P.O.E. located in New York? Perhaps a badge or hatpin? Just a suggestion.

Congrats on the nice finds!! I enjoy your narratives. I believe we have all walked past the "can" and fought the urge to dig it anyway. Often, it's a can' but once in a while...........

Great story and some nice finds. That field is like a gold mine to you. I got to find one of those.
Glad you went back for it.... nothing worse that walking off and you keep thinking and thinking. Sometimes it's best to just dig it!
Congrats! :occasion14:

Sweet relics whatda! I have done the exact same thing, that's why I dig so many cans. It's hard to leave a signal like that. Gotta follow your gut. Congratulations

Yep, same place I was going with, but with help from Molewacker on the what is it forum, here's what it might have looked like new.

ELKS BADGE.jpg

The story goes:

"Rare ~ New York #1 Elks Badge at the Los Angeles Lodge #99 National Convention. This badge is a rare one! The top badge reads New York Lodge ~ B.P.O.E. with the clock at 11, which is attached to a red and purple ribbon. The center medallion reads (Lodge No. 99) Los Angeles~ 1909 medallion hanging from the top. The third medallion is hanging from the red and purple ribbon and is very majestic with a very large No. 1 is in the center top and a beautiful Elk with antlers held high and a windmill behind the Elk and a couple of (liquor) barrels alongside. The back reads "The C.G. Braxmer Co. ~ 10 Maiden Lane ~ New York".

On February 16, 1868, they established the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and elected Vivian to head it. Its social activities and benefit performances increased the popularity of the new Order. Membership grew rapidly. Elks traveling to other cities spread the word of the Brotherhood of Elks. Soon there were requests for Elks Lodges in cities other than New York. In response to these appeals, the Elks asked the New York State legislature for a charter authorizing the establishment of a Grand Lodge with the power to establish local Lodges anywhere in the United States. When the Grand Lodge Charter was issued, the founders then received the first local charter as New York Lodge No. 1 on March 10, 1871. "

THANKS MOLEWACKER!

Cool story and a rare find. I'd say you had a great day. Congrats! I really like your expression "... it's like listening to a machine gun!" I think we all have one like this, mine seems to be a "gattling" field, lol

Oh, I know. It's just that in a high trash area, one gets tired. Yaknowaddameanvern?

I'm usually pretty good about getting them out of the way. Just not when digging in a garbage dump. ;)
