Got out today to an old field behind my house. After torrential rains last night the field was a sloppy mess and I came home covered in mud. Luckily it was walking distance so I didn't leave mud clods inside my car.
Lots of targets, mostly iron but I dug 'em all and most of that is still on my patio including a 8' length of rusted chain and lots of flint chips. What I have pictured here is a couple of square nail fragments, a one-piece button, (my first!) and a heavy chunk of what looks like vehicle trim but I'm not sure. The long flat section underneath is painted black.
Does the button look like a tombac? Can anyone identify the trim piece? I will hold off on posting in the What Is It forum for now.
Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Nice.
Love those old flat buttons. I would pound that site. May be some old coins hiding in there.
I have a site with lots of iron, square nails and a few old flat buttons that gave up two late 1700's coppers and an 1807 Draped Bust LC.
I would definitely go back. All of the signs are there...
