I found this today at a new spot that is being hunted very heavy. Got a few bullets a flat button a piece of what I beleive is a knife a poker chip a bird hair pin? And this thing with a shield and three stars ... its lead and looks like a rosette sort of but its folded in half like it was meant to pinch something in between? Not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nice finds. That thing kind of looks like the pre 19th century bale seals, but the shield with stars definitely looks civil war era.
Do you have pics of the back.?

Yeah bale seal came to mind till i cleand it up a little. The back is blank and flat. I found it in the 1863 winter camp of the army of the potomac after the battle of Fredericksburg.

Above is a Cloth Seal, not a match though, just an example. These were used to bundle up & Seal Cloth being imported into the US. Used as a manufacturing ID, sign of quality, & used for tax purposes.

Lol crusader...my bad. I was going off of the sheild and stars and the fact that 120000 troops camped there. It was quite the UNEDUCATED guess..thanks for the id!.
