Looks like a King George II farthing ( or maybe half penny). What looks like "Liberty" to you is actually "II REX."

Nice KG II! They stopped making them in 1760. I can make out 17?? on the bottom of the reverse. I bet with some cleaning you will get a date off of it. So many coins from that property! Jealous..

Wow, Rubka, can you make out at 17? I will be at John's house this weekend, and I can't wait to take a closer look at this one. Yes, we've had great luck on this property, and it seems that since the ground thawed, new signals are popping up where they weren't before. Bizarre. We're certainly not complaining! Thanks for looking. -L&J

Interesting coin. Appears to be double struck, and or, cft. IP should weigh in on this one. I'll take a guess, (been wrong before).........Definite cft. Cannot understand doubling though as I think it's a cast cft. HMMM.....Lets see what Don....IP....and or, Doninbruster has to say.

Seen that. Either it's just the way it's corroded and an illusion, or counterfeit and the person made a mess of the letter punches into the die because it's only that one section that seems to be doubled.

That coin dates in the range of 1746-1754.

Hogge and IP - hello again! Interesting assessment. I'll have to take a good look at it with a loupe over the weekend. I see where you are seeing the overstrike (where the II is on the right, correct)? So...they were able to counterfeit things back in the 18th century. Kinda cool, historically anyway. Thanks for your keen eyes and thoughts. ~L&J

Definitely more interesting than a normal KGII. Always fun when a counterfeit of some sort comes up. Congrats on a nice find. :icon_thumleft:

Not only were they able to, it was very prolific. To give you an idea roughly, more than half of Geo III coppers in the new world are counterfeits.
