I wish my area here had that kind of history. Colorado was pretty late in the game in history years. The east coast sure is lucky.

Oh yeah, Rustic--John was quite excited! And so was I -- looking at his texted photos (we live about an hour apart). Thanks for looking. ~Lisa

Nice Farthing, yes Regal, in fact the majority of KGII coppers are Regal, the ones that are counterfeit are almost always cast counterfeits, not struck, it is the KGIII coppers that are by far struck counterfeits.

Maybe a little here and there. But with the amount of development, everything here is plowed over now aside from the forests and creeks. I've been having a hell of a time finding suitable areas with old history that isn't either a protected landmark, or demolished 15x over and repaved.

That blows, Primus. Although I suppose there's a bit of that problem everywhere. John just lucked out finding an old property that hadn't been dug up! Until now... haa! ~L&J

Lisa, That is a nice one! All of my KG II Britannia Farthings are 1749s. And there is a good reason why.... But yours is much nicer than any I have found.

Here is an excerpt from Coin World:
In 1750, the ship Mermaid delivered hundreds of thousands of farthings (and even more half*pence) dated 1749 to Boston for circulation in America. While high grade pieces are elusive, circulated 1749 farthings are easy to find, making them an ideal type coin to showcase the farthing denomination in an American collection.

And here is the link to the story:

Steve, what a fascinating article. Thanks so much for sharing. I'll have John read it later. Good to know, too, because that kind of makes farthings with a different year even better. -L

Hello Lisa and John,

I own an interesting book you could probably find on Ebay, Amazon...etc.: Counterfeit Georgian Copper Coins, Richard Coleman, 2015. A very good description and photos of counterfeit coins.

Regards,

Doc
