OK I'll do a little research on bale seal. If it is it's the first one I've ever found. Off pounded in the historic section of town. I wish I knew how old that cross was. It's made rather crudely if you know what I mean.

that type of cross arms that end in flat bar type end in the center of the cross are quite similar to the ones on spanish 8 reales from the mexico city mint

the center piece of the cross appears to have a cross that is similar to the Spanish cross found on the "pillars and waves" 8 reale coin -- from the 1561 to 1773 era.... the outer look of it has a celtic look but catholic items of the era tend to look alike ..copper or bronze was commonly used for working class folks religious items of that time frame

ie new Orleans area --likely its Spanish catholic or maybe French

in the mid 1800 a lot of irish came to new orleans to build the levees

It's just cheap pot metal or pewter, not that much age to it. It may have been plated at one point.

The other is a bag/bale seal.

It's funny you would say that. Do you know I found a 1829 Spanish Mexican 8 Reales not even s block away in a sidewalk strip.
