Here we have a large cast brass belt buckle, a silver dime dated 1838, a suspender or shoe buckle (I'm not sure which), a button, a decorative finial from a lock, and a very primitive key. All found in the old gold fields around Sacramento.

Nice Civil War era military belt buckle. Maybe some experts will chime in.

Those were mainly civilian patriotic buckles and usually associated with the Gold Rush era. They are typically thinner construction than a military buckle.

I absolutely love the homemade key. Looks like they made the hole in the handle with the corner of a chisel

How far apart were the tongue and wreath from each other? A lot of guys will find one half but not the other and will be determined to keep looking for the missing half. You did good by snagging both.

The tongue and wreath buckle pieces were only five feet apart from each other. Yes I was very lucky to find both parts so close together.....I may return to this spot soon to try and find a box for the key! Thank you to all for looking!

Man, every single find would have put a smile on my face. Congratulations, I like the seated dime but that keyhole really stands out.

You live in Sacramento? I live in Stockton, I'd love to find one of those dimes in a park here. Never will...probably...

Great show & tell. Nice gold rush stuff. Good to see some CA guys posting finds here. I'm in Salinas, CA, but sometimes get up that way for park turf.
