Well, a couple of firsts today for ol' Sub...first was that unmistakable, loud, clear, resonating tone on the ATPro of LARGE silver. Consistent 92 VDI at 4" down in all directions. But, being at a new-to-me, old riverside park, (that was full of trash) I did not get too excited until I saw that big disc with the reeded edge...oh boy! There in the hole was a 1961 Ben Franklin silver half dollar. A first for me with it being my largest silver coin to date.

Here he is in situ...
BenFranklin2.jpg

Here he is with a soap and water bath...

Ben was hiding in an area between two large, old trees in the park. I continued to check the area and found this little lapel pin nearby. "W.R.U." with the three ostrich feathers and "Ich Dien," the motto of the Prince of Wales. A little research led me to the Welsh Rugby Union and I am pretty sure the pin is their logo. Another first as this is the first Rugby-related item I have found so far. I hope no one played rugby in THIS park as it is full of exposed rocks...bring bandages...!

Thanks for looking, Happy Hunting to all...Sub 8-)

Ruck On! Played rugby in Pembrokeshire, Wales (Glyndor House, Greenhill Grammar), and my son and daughter just played this weekend on the Plattsburgh alumni squad this weekend. I love the silver Franklin, but really love the pin!

Congrats on the sweet Franklin, that's still on my list, as a lot of others, Ben did not have a long run. BING 92 BING 92 o ya, music to my ears...only had that once...and the tone was unmistakable and awesome...as i popped a Walker Half...my one and only...so I certainly can relate. Great coin! Ddf

ATW, I will return to the little park soon, not today due to T-storms and high water! I need to research it and find out where the old buildings were that are long ago torn down. Sub 8-)

Hey Lance congrats on the Big Ben. That's a hard coin to find.

Quite shocking to see such a big shiny coin emerging from the hole.

I wish you the very best of luck!

Thank you Tom, Research proved that a large restaurant/louge/speak easy/dance hall stood on this property from about 1920-2010, so there may be more silver there! Sub 8-)
