I hunted 3 places today, I'll start with the first place I hit.

Got a tip from one of the local SF hunters about an alley with a dirt road in an older residential part of the city. (thanks Tim!) I started swinging in the alley and worked my way to the end. The only good target turned out to be a 1950's Tootsie Toy Jeep that sounded like a can. I spent about 1 hour there and found only 5 pennies, zinc and Lincolns.

My second location was found by accident. While driving to a baseball field I discovered this small median that was about 100' feet long and about 50' feet wide. I knew I had stumbled on a good spot because I dug up 3 wheat cents in the first 10 minutes! I stayed in the median for 4 hours and dug out 30 wheat pennies, 1 rosie silver dime, 1 silver war nickel, and 2 mercury dimes! I just kept swinging until no targets were left. I dug a total of 63 coins out of this small median!

My 3rd spot was a baseball field where I arrived about 5:30 pm. Hunting until 7 pm I was very much surprised with a 1908 Presidential watch fob depicting William Jennings Bryan and John Kern who where the democrat nominees for president & vice president. Watch fob was about 4 inched deep, how did it get in the baseball field?. A 1962 silver dime in the baseball field would add to my silver coin total of 5 for the day!

Great digs!
Funny how if we scratch a coin during recovery, we feel awful. But a coin shredded by a lawn mower is no big deal.
Congrats on the silvers and relics.

Wow, you had a great day hunting, congratulations. And let me just say how I love your thorough photos with the notations right on them (I got a good laugh out of the "gopher mounds") is nice to see the kinds of areas where other detectorists hunt in other parts of the country.

Nice bunch of finds. That one Rosie looks like someone took a pair of side cutters to it. Doesn't look like lawnmower damage.

Congrats :icon_thumleft:
When I was a kid I hunted an old park - it had been pounded - thru a small patch of woods about 100 yrds away - I saw
another field - so I figured i'd give it a try - walked thru the woods and got to the field - it turned out to be a newer one
hit it for awhile - got a bunch of new coins - I walked back to the woods to head out and saw a small worn path - had to pee
and set my machine down and found a big tree - went and picked my machine up - did not realize it was still on
when I raise it I got a signal - dug it and found a merc dime ...what do you know...I stayed in that woods and found His - v nickels
and barbers - hit it a few more times with much of the same - totally by accident
so good to try any woods near old parks and old schools ---also near any old swimming holes where people went into the woods to change or fool around

Ball field finds at shallow depth may have came to be from fill dirt brought in from elsewhere?
A couple fields I've hunted had homes razed on them and the debris was pushed around. Some long debris trails pushed to level the ground and on one site more fill was added to about a twenty yard wide debris field.

Nice recoveries ,and congrats!

Nice digs Dave. Looks like that one Rosie circumnavigated a lawnmower 3-4 times ;)

Iv'e seen them like this before. It got sucked up through the lawn mower probably being cut three times before resting for 40 years.
