After work I headed over to a newer permission...120 acre wooded parcel that stretches along the upper banks of Lake Michigan. The land has been hunted heavily over the last century so I usually dig up a zillion headstamps with the occasional coin mixed in.

Today I tackled a spot that I had not previously been...when I started hearing growling iron sounds I immediately became excited because the area was a significant distance from any road or trail. After I unearthed the first knife I knew that I had just stumbled upon the site of some fur trader...I dug for 2 hours straight and barely made a dent in all the targets. Crazy. Silver brooches. Hawks bells. Iron grape shot ball. Knives. Mouth harp. Trade ring. Lock plate. Buttons. Earring.

You have just entered Indiana Jones territory. You must have had heart palpitations digging up all that history. Looks like you could work that spot for years and not run dry on targets. Congrats on the finds and research that found that spot.

Well you hit the jackpot with that site.....I'd be setting up a campsite there, mind you, it probably has been a native campsite for eons given the mix of finds.

Courious as to what the object is in the third row of pics , the two on the right side different view of same object.
I have one that is identical except the pointed end is broke off. It came from a 1700 fort site.
Thanks

Assuming you are looking at the item that kind of looks like the end of a vintage fountain pen tip?? If so - that item is a 'muzzleloader ramrod guide'.

mk4125,

Wondering if you spotted a midden (fire pit) at that site or not.....one of the native relic experts on another forum had found one several years ago and actually dug it out and bagged the dirt and took it home and sifted it.

A labor of love but he did find a lot of metallic as well as non metallic items such as beads etc....just a thought.

I think I have found something of a fire pit...Or a concentrated trash pile possibly. Once I work through the easiest targets I may circle back and fully extract everything in there. :)

Second set of photos after the button... that's a very old dip pen tip, I believe. I use a modern one, but they don't change much.

Good story. Totally killer set of finds. Historic wonderment of items! That's my dream site. :treasurechest: Congratulations! Looking forward to more. :4leafclover:

Ramrod holder for a musket...But agree that it looks a lot like a fountain pen tip.
