The first picture is from Cru'Dad's 2 hour hunt yesterday on a random field, no good signs, so it's off the list.

Today we gridded for just over 6 hours and nearly finished the whole Site, just a small 1/2 day effort left to finish a small annex. We had extended our search much further than we normally would just to check for any loses outside the known area. Picked up a few modern finds, couple of scrappies & a Brooch. The rest was mostly in the known scatter.

24 Roman Coins, 2 OK ones
Decorated Tombac Button
Roman Nail
1940s? toy Bike
2 Roman Hob-Nails
2nd-3rd C AD Roman Plate Brooch
Mystery Roman plated Leather Mount (Type I've not seen)

Even your "worst" hunts produce the goods. Ya' gotta' love walking over real history. Going from "modern" relics to ancient in a few strides. That's totally cool.

I don't thing 24 Roman coins is in my category of worst, but it is a little disappointing to cover over 10 acres & not get a Silver. We have had one every year we search it. So, any left are deep or we got them.

I always like finding the Roman Coins with the iron stained red hue caused by wet areas of the land.

Gives them a different appearance and most you post look like the iron preserves the patina from damage due to fertilizer.
