I went out the other day in the heat to a spot I've hit multiple times before. The first few times, I've dug regiment buttons and KG's but not much in the last 6-7 times. I started out the same but decided to change the settings on my machine from relic mode, ferrous coin to silver mode, ground coin. Huge difference. Instead of iron grunts that I couldn't pinpoint,I had signals to dig . Many were square nails but I did get 3 other items mixed in. A dandy button, thimble and a ring. The ring seems to be 2 types of metal which I can't really identify, but it seemed like it might have had a stone on top of what was a setting. Pretty neat , knowing how old it must be. I think I'm starting to learn the CTX. I knew it would take a little bit, this was only my 14-15th time. I'm going to try these settings at my other sites, hopefully I have good luck.
