Dad and I went for an early morning hunt in Winston Salem NC at a house in the old part of town. Very first signal screamed quarter. We were shocked when out rolled an 1730 Spanish cob. After that we took turns pulling silver out of the ground. Total modern coins were two Rosie's, 1948 and 1956. A 1941 merc, a 1943P war nickel, and a sterling ring. An Indian run over by a train, a play money quarter, 11 wheaties, and a handful of clad and and truckload of trash. Best hunt ever!
Alas,a little bit of research showed us that the cob is a souvenir coin, but it had our hearts racing for a while at least.
Happy Hunting!

Well you got me. I cleaned it up really good to show you a pic but it ended up being a wheat penny. The green corrosion made use see something that wasn't there.
