After my quick 1 hour scout on this field last time, I already knew where I wanted to grid. Mostly in the hope of 1 hammered, & when I got the Medieval Buckle Plate I thought I was on track. Until I was blown off the tracks with a freak/random Roman Silver. But not any silver, a Republic type that's on my wish list. Not in my top 5 but in the top 10.
Only spent 2 hours weed wacking & I'm still solo hunting with Cru'dad reading in the car.
This coin is my earliest Roman Coin, so I'm well pleased, more so as it's not the normal Helmeted type.
58 BC Republic Denarius of M Aemilius Scaurua and P Plautius Hypsaeus.
Obverse depicts:
King Aretas III of Nabataea kneeling in supplication by camel presenting Olive branch to Scaurus. The first time a moneyer put an event from his career onto coinage.
Reverse:
Jupiter in quadriga brandishing thunderbolt with Scorpion below horses
Bear in mind this is coin is dated over 100 years before they evaded us.
