I got back out to the construction project that is putting sports fields on what used to be part of Fort Boise. I got a late start so it was already over 90 degrees before I got out there. The ground is also getting as hard as a rock. I still managed to find some nice relics (for me) in the 2 hours I hunted. The cavalry crossed sword insignia was one of my first finds, looks like L company 14th cavalry? Also got a nice carbine sling end, but jabbed it with my digger. More eagle buttons, one of which has the c for cavalry, and the brass wingnuts that were used to hold insignia on uniforms. Lots of 45-70 cartridge cases, also newer ones I don't recognize. Thanks for looking and HH.

Oh man, killer finds! That crossed sabres hat badge is a very good find, and I think it's Indian Wars era. I think it's worth having it properly restored if you want it straightened out.

If you're interested, I can give you the name of the expert that straightened out my crossed rifles Infantry hat badge.

Congrats again on finding such a trove of awesome relics.

Great return hunt! Congrats on the 14th insignia badge.

The 14th Cavalry was constituted 2 February 1901, by War Department General Order Number 14. The unit was organized at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, 5 March 1901.
In 1920, the 14th Cavalry Regiment was moved to Iowa, and for approximately the next two decades served in a peacetime capacity.
