I didn't take any "before" pics of this flat button because it didn't look very interesting. Boy, was I wrong! I could see a little gold gilt on the back, so I cleaned it up with naval jelly. It came out amazing!

It's a Williams "Rich Treble Orange Gilt" button. Nothing on the front, but that's okay. Not sure of the age, but I'm guessing early 1800's. Also found a really big musket ball and a very tiny hem weight. No old coins, but still a fun day today!

Yup, took a break today, but I'll be back there after the next heavy rain. The coins and relics really popped after our last storm. I'll keep going back until I get skunked a couple of times in a row. Hard to resist a spot with musket balls and flat buttons, not to mention coins from the 1800's!

They're a thrill to find because you know they're at least 150 years old and probably much older than that. Digging for clad and rings is okay once in awhile, but it's the old stuff that keeps me interested in this hobby.
